Brazil Looking for First Win

We are into the second week of the 2018 World Cup and that means the second round of group matches, some of which could be decisive. On Friday, the focus will be on Group E and the big match sees Brazil meet Costa Rica in the Saint-Petersburg Stadium.  Brazil know a win would leave them in a good position to qualify for the Round of 16 whereas Costa Rica know they cannot afford to lose the match as it would see them close to elimination from the tournament.

Brazil Form

Brazil started the 2018 World Cup with a match against Switzerland.  Brazil were expected to win the match and this expectation increased when they took the lead in the first half.  A great strike from Philippe Coutinho opened the scoring and Brazil looked set to go on and win the game.

However, Switzerland equalised in the second half and Brazil could not up the tempo of their game to find the winner.  It was a disappointing result from Brazil and they must improve their level of performance to take maximum points from this game.

Costa Rica Form

Costa Rica were the surprise package of the 2014 World Cup, reaching the quarter-final stage of the tournament.  However, this time opposition managers and players are wise to their tactics and their defence is their strongest element of play.

While Costa Rica did not concede from open play against Serbia, they lost 1-0 thanks to a direct free-kick.  Their attacking play was poor and the link-up between midfield and attack needs to improve if they are to trouble the Brazilian defence.

Costa Rica have lost each of their last 5 meetings with Brazil and will need to overcome any inferiority complex, if they are to get something from the game.

Team News

Brazil have doubts over the fitness of Fred and Neymar.  The latter was on the end of some tough tackling from the Swiss defence but will be given every chance to prove his fitness ahead of the match.  If he fails to make it, Renato Augusto could come into midfield, with Philippe Coutinho pushed into attack.

Costa Rica may look to make one change from the starting XI against Serbia.  Christian Bolanos looked lively coming from the bench and could replace Johan Venegas in attack.

Top Betting Tips

It would be considered a huge shock if Brazil did not win this game.  They have the superior players and hold a great advantage in the head-to-head record against Costa Rica.  You can back Brazil to win the game at 1/5 with William Hill.

However, Tite does not appear to be the type of manager who will throw players forward and abandon the defensive side of Brazil’s game.  Therefore, it may not be a big win in terms of the score and Ladbrokes offer 11/4 for Brazil to win the match by 2 goals.

If fit, Neymar is sure to come in for some more rough attention in this game but will be eager to get off the mark.  Expect to see the PSG man around all free-kicks close to the edge of the box as he attempts to score his first goal of the tournament.  Neymar is 12/5 at William Hill to score the first goal of the game.

World Cup – France vs Peru Betting Tip

  • When: 4:00PM, Thursday, June 21st, 2018
  • Where: Central Stadium, Yekaterinburg, Russia

Group C continues on Thursday afternoon as leaders France take on bottom side Peru in Yekaterinburg. This is a big game for both of these sides, with France fans looking for a better performance after their underwhelming win against Australia and with Peru needing to get something out of the game after losing to Denmark in their first match. France can seal their progress to the next round with a win if Denmark beat Australia earlier in the day, and Didier Deschamps would dearly love to wrap things up after two matches.

Big things were expected of France heading into this tournament, but their opening game against Australia presented more questions than answers. There are many people who believe that Deschamps is not the right man for the job and even after six years in charge, France still don’t really play with much of a style or a game plan. Deschamps is desperate to play his big stars, but there have to be questions as to whether Antoine Griezmann, Paul Pogba, Kylian Mbappe and Ousmane Dembele can all play in the same side.

Peru will have been very disappointed to have lost their opening game against Denmark, especially when you consider that they had the chance to take the lead from the penalty spot in the first half. Christian Cueva missed that spot kick before Yussuf Poulsen scored a second half winner for the Danes. In truth, Peru played quite well in the game and were unlucky to lose, but it now means that if Denmark beat Australia in the early game in Group C, Peru will have to beat France or else they will be eliminated.

The game between Denmark and Australia has a huge bearing on this match, with Peru knowing that they are out unless they beat France if Denmark win the early game. France were very disappointing in their opening game, but I’m expecting them to play much better against Peru on Thursday. I think we could see Olivier Giroud come into the starting line up for this one, and I’m backing France to pick up the victory.

Betting Tips (Coral)

France come into this match as the favourites to pick up the victory at odds of 6/10, whilst a win for Peru is priced up at 5/1, with the draw available at 14/5. A solid bet in this one looks like France and over 2.5 goals at 33/20, and I’m expecting France to put in a much better attacking display in this game than they did against Australia. Deschamps may decide to give Giroud a start in this game and the Chelsea striker is available at 7/2 to open the scoring and 13/10 to score at anytime, with both of them looking like solid bets to me.

Olivier Giroud to Score at Anytime – 13/10 (Coral)

Premier League 4-Fold

This is it; the final day of the Premier League season is upon us. Manchester City have been crowned champions, Stoke City and West Bromwich Albion have been relegated, with Swansea City needed a ludicrous goal swing to avoid joining them and all but two teams really have nothing left to play for. The battle for the fourth and final Champions League spot is the only real story on Sunday, with Liverpool needing to avoid defeat to Brighton & Hove Albion to seal it. In this article I will be putting together a 4-fold bet for you to take advantage of, with all of the odds coming courtesy of Coral and accurate at the time of writing.

Newcastle United vs Chelsea

Chelsea may live to rue their 1-1 draw with Huddersfield Town in midweek, a result which means Liverpool now need only a draw on Sunday to finish in the top four. This could well be Antonio Conte’s last game in charge of Chelsea and he will be doing all he can to put the pressure on Liverpool above them. Newcastle have lost four straight games since hitting the 40-point mark and their players look to well and truly be on the beach, so I’m backing a comfortable Chelsea win in this one.

Chelsea to win – 8/13

Burnley vs Bournemouth

Sean Dyche has done a wonderful job at Burnley this season, taking one of the favourites for relegation to European qualification. Burnley are winless in their last four matches, but on the final day, in front of a raucous home crowd, I fancy them to beat a Bournemouth side who have won just one of their last five matches.

Burnley to win – 6/5

Swansea City vs Stoke City

Swansea City need a miracle to stay up; they are three points behind Southampton, but need a nine goal swing to survive. With Southampton facing a Manchester City side who have scored 105 goals this season, you never know, but first and foremost Swansea must beat Stoke City. Stoke City are rooted to the bottom of the Premier League with just six wins all season and no wins in their last 13 matches, so I’m backing a Swansea victory here.

Swansea City to win – 20/23

Crystal Palace vs West Bromwich Albion

It has been a quite bizarre season for Crystal Palace. After failing to score or pick up any points from their first seven games, they looked like certainties for relegation, but Roy Hodgson has come in and rejuvenated this talented side and they can now finish in the top half with a win on Sunday. Only Manchester City and Chelsea are in better form than Crystal Palace over the last five games and they should have too much for a relegated West Bromwich Albion side in this one.

Crystal Palace to win – 3/4

Total 4-Fold – 11/1 (Coral)

English Championship Playoffs – Aston Villa vs Middlesbrough

Aston Villa have one foot in the playoff final after picking up a 1-0 win away from home at The Riverside Stadium on Saturday and Steve Bruce’s side now know that if they avoid defeat at home, then they will progress to meet either Derby County or Fulham in the final. Australian midfielder, Mile Jedinak headed the only goal of a fairly dour first leg as Middlesbrough turned in a surprisingly flat performance in front of their own fans. Tony Pulis’s side have it all to do on Tuesday night now if they are to have any chance of achieving promotion back to the Premier League at the first time of asking.

Aston Villa

Aston Villa will come into this game full of confidence after turning in a solid first leg display on Saturday. Much of The Villains strength this season has been built on their solid defensive unit and they showcased that skill in the first leg, keeping the dangerous duo of Adama Traore and Patrick Bamford at bay. Jack Grealish picked up the man of the match award in the first leg and the young winger is finally starting to realise his full potential this season as he looks to kick on.

Tony Pulis will have been extremely disappointed with the performance shown by his side in the first leg at The Riverside Stadium. For a side that are so dangerous in attack, they looked toothless in front of goal on Saturday as they created very little up against a solid Villa backline. Patrick Bamford started Saturday’s game on the bench, but the striker could well come into the starting line up on Tuesday night with Middlesbrough chasing the game. Pulis will have been even more annoyed by the nature of the goal, with it coming from a set piece. The experienced manager has always set his sides up well to both attack and defend set pieces, and so he will have been very disappointed that Jedinak was allowed the space to head in the winning goal.

Talking Points

1. Saturday’s match was the first time in almost three months that Middlesbrough have failed to score.
2. Aston Villa have kept clean sheets in six of their last nine matches.
3. There have been over 1.5 goals in seven of the last ten meetings between these two sides.

Middlesbrough were very disappointing the first leg between these two sides, but they can draw strength from the fact that they beat Aston Villa 2-0 at Villa Park earlier this season. If they can repeat that scoreline on Tuesday night, then they will advance to the playoff finals. I’m not convinced that they can though, as this Villa side are much stronger than they were back in September. Steve Bruce’s side are so well organised at the back and I can see them picking up another narrow victory in this one.

Betting Tips (Coral)

Aston Villa start this game as favourites at odds of 5/4, whilst an away win for Middlesbrough is available at 5/2, with the draw priced up at 21/10. I do think Aston Villa will win this one and the 5/4 available is pretty decent odds. When you consider that Villa have kept a clean sheet in six of their last nine matches, the 12/5 available on Aston Villa to Win to Nil looks extremely tempting. A repeat of the scoreline from the first leg in favour of The Villains is priced up at 11/2 and that could also be well worth a look.

Aston Villa to Win to Nil – 12/5 (Coral)

Red Zone Sports Offer for the CL

The Champions League Final is now just a few days away and both sets of players will be going through their final preparations as they head out to Kiev for the game. Fans of both Real Madrid and Liverpool will be confident of lifting the trophy and we could well be in for a thrilling encounter between two brilliant attack sides on Saturday night.

Real Madrid will be looking to win the trophy for the third successive season after beating Juventus and Atletico Madrid in the last two years, whilst Liverpool are aiming to win the trophy for the first time since 2005. That final still ranks as arguably the greatest Champions League Final of all time, as The Reds came back from a 3-0 half time deficit to beat AC Milan in Istanbul. If Liverpool win on Saturday night it will be their sixth Champions League victory, whilst Real Madrid are going for their 13th victory.

To coincide with the game. RedZoneSports are running a superb new customer offer, giving you odds of 50/1 on Liverpool to lift the cup. That means they can win the game in normal time, extra time or on penalties. To take advantage of this offer, you must sign up for an account and use the code, ‘RZCL50’ when making your deposit of £10 or more. Once you have deposited the money, back Liverpool to win in the Win-Draw-Win market and if The Reds win on Saturday night you will be credited with your winnings at the normal odds, as well as your bonus winnings at 50/1. Any free bet winnings must be turned over three times at minimum odds of 1.6.

This is a pretty simple offer to take advantage of, and when you consider that Real Madrid are only slight favourites for the victory it looks like a great offer. I do fancy Liverpool to lift the trophy on Saturday night; things have certainly gone their way in terms of refereeing decisions during the knockout rounds and they will come into the game well rested and full of confidence after beating Brighton & Hove Albion 4-0 on the final day of the Premier League season to seal a top four finish. Real Madrid have looked beatable plenty of times this season and finished down in 3rd place in La Liga. Obviously they have the European pedigree and all of their players have seen and won this competition before, but I’ve got a good feeling about Liverpool!

Coral – Champions League New Customer Offer

We’re now just a day away from the Champions League Final between Real Madrid and Liverpool in Kiev, with fans and players making their final preparations. This is the final club game of the European season and without doubt, the biggest. Real Madrid are looking to lift the trophy for the third successive season, whilst Liverpool are aiming to win it for the first time since Rafael Benitez led his side to glory in 2005.

There are plenty of sub-plots within the game, none bigger than the battle of the leading scorers though as Cristiano Ronaldo and Mohamed Salah face off against each other. Cristiano Ronaldo is the all time record goalscorer in the competition and also leads the scoring charts with 15 goals in this year’s competition. Mohamed Salah has found the net ten times, alongwith his teammate, Roberto Firmino and all three of those players will be hoping to have a big say on the outcome of Saturday’s match in Kiev.

There are plenty of new customer offers being released to coincide with the game and Coral have just launched one of their classic ones; A Yellow Card to be Shown – 40/1. These offers are almost always an easy way to bank a free £40 bet with Coral as in big games there is almost always at least one yellow card shown.

To take advantage of this great offer, you must have never held a Coral account before and after registering you must deposit a minimum of £5 into your account. Once you have deposited your funds, you must place your first real money bet as a single on the ‘Real Madrid v Liverpool – A Yellow Card to Be Shown 40/1 selection in the ‘My Markets’ section on the website or app. The maximum bet allowed for this offer is £1 and if your bet loses you will receive a free £5 bet. That’s the other great thing about these offers, even if the bet somehow loses, you still receive a free £5 bet! Any free bets accrued with this offer will expire after four days if they are not used.

If you’re not already a Coral customer and you were thinking about placing a bet on Saturday’s Champions League Final, then this could be the perfect offer for you to take advantage of.
